New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club awards 19 scholarships
The New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club recently awarded 19 scholarships of $500 each to local students for a total of $9,500.
Seventeen of the scholarships are from the Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club scholarship program that was founded in 1979 by the late Rev. Jay Cooper.
The late Ole Wessell, also a Kiwanian, left funds in trust that the club uses for the scholarship program.
Since the inception of the program, the Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis has provided approximately $204,500 to assist in the education of area students.
The Rancie Titley Memorial Scholarship provides two additional awarded scholarships of $500 each. Titley was a longtime, active and valued member of the club. Her husband, Bill, has provided funds for the scholarships in her memory.
