The Holmes County 4-H Shooting Sports Club met Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. President Shane Gardner opened the meeting for business. The United States flag pledge was led by Tanner Neuenschwander and the 4-H flag pledge was led by Bryce Burgett. The treasurer’s report was given by Wyatt Gardner. The NRA approved membership was presented to club members. County 4-H awards for Honor Club, Health, and Above and Beyond were presented, and the secretary and treasurer books were shared by club members. Hat and Shooting Sports 4-H pins were presented to club members completing their 4-H projects for 2009 and hunting vests were presented to Michael Martin, Mark Lowe, Matthew Lowe, Tiffany Johnson, and Austin Johnson for first year members completing their 4-H projects. The 4-H club members and adults enjoyed lunch together and then picked up trash on TR 310. The trash pick-up is a community service project for the 4-H Shooting Sports Club in cooperation with the Holmes County Adopt-A-Road program. Disciplines for the day were shotgun (trap shooting), archery, and bottle rockets, with prizes for the winners that competed. The ALS Association (Lou Gehrig’s disease) had a representative, Lisa, who attended the meeting to explain what the association is doing to assist ALS patients, their families, and their caregivers. Checks were presented to the ALS Association on behalf of the 4-H club - the money was collected during the Hope for Tomorrow - Help for Now walk on Sept. 12 to benefit Larry Lee Lang and the ALS Association.
