Don't cuss the heat, go dance in the rain

Last week not much got done around here. It was too hot to do anything except complain and cuss the heat.
This week promises to be a bit cooler — let’s hope so. When I took the dog out this morning, there was actually a cool breeze blowing. Perhaps with cooler temperatures we can do a bit of work in the gardens. The hot, dry heat has not been good for our plants, and even the weeds look limp and sick. What is really scary is summer has just begun. We have two whole months to endure!
There is an interesting option, though — a rather expensive one. We could go visit Australia; it’s winter there. For the rest of us poor, suffering folks, a much cheaper option is to stay home with the air-conditioning on full blast.
Despite the miserable, hot temperatures, summer is still my favorite season. It’s a time for family picnics, trips to visit family members and at least one trip each summer to the beach.
Our dog loves the beach. She loves rolling in the sand until she is caked with the stuff. At that point someone needs to take her down to the water and wash her off. That part of going to the beach she doesn’t like.
When we were children, we loved the summers, especially since school was closed. If we got too hot and dirty playing outside, we’d just turn on the hose and spray each other until the dirt was no longer visible.
Once during a driving rainstorm, we kids, full dressed, ran outside and danced around in the pouring rain. Our parents weren’t happy, making us sit on the porch until we got dry enough to go inside. We had to stay in our rooms the rest of that day. Honestly, we kids thought dancing in the rain was worth the price of being stuck in our rooms.
