Every new place has demands

Every new place has demands

I’ll bet few of us have ever given much thought to our gutters, except of course when it’s time to clean them out. That’s an onerous job no one looks forward to, but eventually it has to be done. Otherwise they get clogged, and no house wants to live with clogged gutters.

When we moved into our new place, she had no gutters, and the result was a cold shower when we stepped outside on rainy days.

Our new place thought that was funny, but we disagreed. Also, the rain pouring off our roof makes gigantic muddy puddles in our lawn, which our dogs make a bee line for every time they go outside.

Our house doesn’t think it is funny when the dogs scamper inside with wet, muddy feet. Our new place seems to love our dogs, just not their muddy feet on her lovely new floors.

The gutters were installed this morning, just in time for a downpour. Now when we step outside, we get a bit wet but not soaked. All this rain is exciting the grass, and it’s growing by leaps and bounds.

Unfortunately mowing wet grass isn’t very effective. We need perhaps two or three days without rain to curb the growing enthusiasm of our grass. If we can’t cut that stuff back soon, we could lose a dog.

Adjusting to a new house takes time, patience and money. Every new place has demands, and ours is no different.

She wants more towel rods, hooks and rugs, and she is getting impatient for all the pictures and other artwork to decorate her walls. And she wants a porch out front and a shed outback. So far we’ve granted her wish for towel rods, and we’ll hang the art soon. The other things are still under consideration.

So far the house and I have agreed that a porch and or deck would be really nice to have. Actually a shed should be the priority because our lawnmower needs a place to live.

My Taller Half is voting for the shed because he is the mower of the grass. So house, you and I will have to wait for a porch and or a deck. The shed won that election.
