Our houses love Thanksgiving. They love the smells, the gathering of family and friends, and the decorations.

Our houses actually hum with pleasure. Ours did just that this year. It was cold outside but warm and happy inside. The turkey was delicious and so were the pies. (I will admit the pies were store-bought, but that was only to save time and disasters in our kitchen.) Our guests ate well and hopefully enjoyed every bite.

The clean-up wasn’t a great deal of fun, but the leftovers were plentiful, enough to send a meal home with our company and a few more meals for us to enjoy. That is one of the best parts of Thanksgiving meals: the leftovers.

Our dogs agree. They love a little turkey and rice with a green bean or two thrown in. Those animals love string beans.

Now that we have celebrated Thanksgiving, it is time to prepare for the Christmas season, one of the favorite times of the year for our houses. They get decorated inside and out and are admired by all.

We have begun to bring in the boxes of decorations and to figure out where to put the tree. When we downsized, we forgot about a place for a tree. Guess we will just have to live with a bit of overcrowding. We have to have a tree.

Our guests and dogs would be so disappointed without one. I, on the other hand, would be very happy with just a wreath on the front door. Decorating is fun; de-decorating is not fun.

So to keep all happy, the house and the dogs will get a tree, the front door will get a wreath and a string of lights, my Taller Half will get Christmas cookies, and I will get tired.
These holidays are such great fun, but all the prep and the clean-up are exhausting.

Can’t wait for Christmas.
