Annual event scheduled for Nov. 14-21 The College of Wooster to host International Education Week
The College of Wooster will celebrate International Education Week with a wide range of events and activities, featuring music, poetry, dance, art, and clothing from around the world, Nov. 14-21.The festivities begin with a culture and talent show on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m., in McGaw Chapel, 340 E. University St. The celebration continues on Monday, Nov. 16, with an open forum, titled Botswana: A Case of Global Humanitarianism. Students, faculty, and staff will share their service-work experiences in Botswana, from 7-9 p.m., in the formal lounge of Babcock Hall, 1315 Beall Ave. Both events are free and open to the public.
Wooster’s ambassadors will host the annual Flavours of the World reception on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m., in Kittredge Hall, 535 E. Wayne Ave. Guests are invited to sample delicious selections from India, Pakistan, Botswana, Ecuador, and The Netherlands. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased through the Wooster Inn at 330-263-2660.
Students will share cultural objects and information from countries representing their origins and travels throughout the world during the international bazaar, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19, from 4-6 p.m., in the main lobby of Lowry Center, 1189 Beall Ave. This event is also free and open to the public.
On Friday, Nov. 20, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., in Lowry Center, Wooster will host Mehndi Night, an opportunity to experience the South Asian cultural traditions of drawing henna (mehndi) designs, making rangoli (Indian sand painting art), and participating in dandiya (traditional Indian folk dance with sticks). Admission, materials, and instruction will be provided at no charge.
The week concludes on Saturday, Nov. 21, with the annual South Asia dinner, beginning at 6 p.m., in Macky Hall of Westminster Church House, 353 E. Pine St. Tickets may be purchased at the Wilson Bookstore, beginning Friday, Nov. 13.
Other activities include an art wall trivia contest in Lowry Center throughout the week, as well as an off-campus study fair for students on Nov. 16, from 3-6 p.m., in the main lobby of Lowry Center. There will also be an opportunity for students to explore summer vocational opportunities in the areas of health-related international service work or social justice issues offered through the Lilly Project for the Exploration of Vocation on Nov. 17, from 7-9 p.m., in Severance (Chemistry) Hall, 943 College Mall. In addition, student ambassadors Morag Neill (Botswana) and Bastiaan van de Lagemaat (The Netherlands), will join Amyaz Moledina, associate professor of economics, for his weekly radio show, Transglobal Groove Collective on WCWS 90.9 FM on Nov. 15 and Nov. 22, from 2-4 p.m.
International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries.
