Culler is awarded Myers scholarship
Braden Culler, who plans to attend Kent State University and pursue a career in counseling, is the 2019 recipient of the David Myers Memorial Scholarship.
The $1,500 award was presented recently at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School in New Philadelphia by David Myers’ brother, Bob Myers of Bolivar.
David Myers was an athlete and 1967 graduate of the former Dover St. Joseph High School, where he was a four-year quarterback who led the Ramblers to two undefeated seasons and a state title. His family and friends began the scholarship in 1984 after his death at the age of 35. The Dover native was married to Susan Doughten of New Philadelphia, and his parents are the late John and Betty Myers.
To date, $32,750 has been awarded to a graduate of TCC on the basis of grades, sportsmanship, character and service.
Culler was the 2019 varsity basketball captain and also was captain of the baseball team his junior and senior year. He served as a counselor at the school’s biddy ball camp all four years, organized a fundraiser for Share-A-Christmas, and volunteered with Special Olympics and other projects.
In the fall Culler will major in clinical psychology at Kent’s main campus. He has maintained a 3.94 GPA while continuing to work and volunteer as well as play sports. He is a son of Jay Culler of New Philadelphia and the late Richelle Culler.
