East Holmes schools will be in session for the first full day on Wednesday, Aug. 18. Here are things all parents should know:

—Any parents with children attending East Holmes schools for the first time and who have not registered them should do so as soon as possible. Buildings are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

High school or middle school students should register at Hiland High School. Flat Ridge students should register at Wise School. All other East Holmes elementary students should register at the appropriate building. You will need your child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency to register. Any questions should be directed to the elementary building nearest your home or Hiland High School, if applicable.

—Open house schedules: Berlin, Monday, Aug. 16 from 5-6 p.m.; Chestnut Ridge, Tuesday, Aug. 17 from 1:30-3 p.m.; Flat Ridge, Tuesday, Aug. 17 from 1-4 p.m.; Hiland, Monday, Aug. 16 from 7-8 p.m.; Mt. Hope, Tuesday, Aug. 17 from 1:30-3 p.m.; Winesburg, Monday, Aug. 16 from 4-5:30 p.m.; Walnut Creek, Monday, Aug. 16 from 5-6:30 p.m.; and Wise, Tuesday, Aug. 17 from 1-4 p.m.

—East Holmes Schools is using a notification system to inform parents of school closings, emergencies and events. If you have not previously completed an ALERTNOW form, these are available from the secretary at your school. This will allow you to receive a telephone call, text message or email notice.

—Details will be provided to parents by the individual building principal concerning schedules and teacher assignments.

—Kindergarten students will be picked up and returned home on the regular bus routes beginning as follows: Berlin, Chestnut Ridge, Mt. Hope, Walnut Creek and Winesburg on Wednesday, Aug. 18 and Flat Ridge on Thursday, Aug. 19. Additional details will be communicated by each building.

School opening and closing times are set according to the time schedule below:

—Berlin Elementary from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

—Chestnut Ridge Elementary from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

—Flat Ridge Elementary from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

—Hiland High and Middle School from 7:45 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.

—Mt. Hope Elementary from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

—Walnut Creek Elementary from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

—Winesburg Elementary from 7:40 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.

—Wise Elementary from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The school district announced the USDA has extended the Seamless Summer Options, providing free meals to all East Holmes students. One breakfast and one lunch will be provided to each student at no cost during the 2021-22 school year. A la carte options will be available for students to purchase extra entrees and healthy snacks. Extra milk is 50 cents per carton. It is important to complete the Free and Reduced Meal Application if you would normally qualify. The collection of meal applications ensures the district continues to receive funding and grants based on eligibility.

The 2021-22 school calendar includes 180 days in which school is open for instruction. Days off or days of note include the following:

—Sept. 6: no school for Labor Day.

—Oct. 15: no school for a professional in-service day.

—Nov. 1 and 4: parent-teacher conferences (k-12) in the evening.

—Nov. 5: parent-teacher conferences (k-12) during the day.

—Nov. 5: no school for elementary and Hiland (k-8).

—Nov. 25-29: no school for Thanksgiving break.

—Dec. 20-31: no school for Christmas break.

—Jan. 3: school resumes.

—Jan. 17: no school for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

—Feb. 21: no school for a professional in-service day.

—March 21-25: no school for spring break.

—April 15-18: no school for Easter break.

—May 26: last day of school for students.
