John Boros, of Big Prairie, has been named a featured student by The University of Akron Board of Trustees. This honor was presented at the board’s monthly meeting in Akron on Nov. 30. Boros, a nursing student, enrolled at The University of Akron Wayne College nearly three years ago. Boros decided to make the most of his situation following a corporate downsizing that left him unemployed, and began pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. Gordon Holly, Wayne College senior director of student life and enrollment management, assisted Boros in applying for a Wayne College Educational Stimulus Package, which was a one-time program for recently unemployed members of the community. According to Holly, “Boros is a determined and hardworking student who deserves to be recognized for his accomplishments and amazing attitude.” In looking at his life, Boros said there are two guiding principles he has learned: to let go, and to get over past failures. He said his attitude is summed up by the Chinese proverb, “Should you fall seven times, stand up eight.” Boros is a post-baccalaureate student who is nearing the end of his nursing studies.
