Important dates to know for East Holmes Schools
School will be in session for East Holmes Schools students for the first full day on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Any parents with children attending East Holmes Schools for the first time and who have not registered them should do so as soon as possible.
Buildings are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. High school or middle school students should register at Hiland High School. Flat Ridge students should register at Wise School. All other East Holmes elementary students should register at the appropriate building.
You will need your child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency to register. Any questions should be directed to the elementary building nearest your home or Hiland High School if applicable.

East Holmes Schools is using a notification system to inform parents of school closings, emergencies and events. If you have not previously completed an All Call form, these are available from the secretary at your school or on the district’s website under the Parents & Students link, Forms, All Call Notifications. This will allow you to receive a telephone call, text message or email notice.
Details will be provided to parents by each building’s principal concerning schedules and teacher assignments.
All kindergarten students will be picked up and returned home on the regular bus routes beginning Aug. 26. Kindergarten students will attend, by appointment only, Aug. 21-23. Additional details will be communicated by each building.
School opening and closing times are set according to the schedule below:
—Berlin Elementary: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
—Chestnut Ridge Elementary: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
—Flat Ridge Elementary: 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
—Hiland High and Middle School: 7:45 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.
—Mt. Hope Elementary: 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
—Walnut Creek Elementary: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
—Winesburg Elementary: 7:40 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.
—Wise Elementary: 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The 2024-25 school calendar includes 175 days in which school is open for instruction. Dates of note are as follows:
—Sept. 2: No school (Labor Day).
—Oct. 18: No school (professional in-service day).
—Nov. 8: No school for Hiland seventh and eighth grade.
—Nov. 22: No school for kindergarten through eighth grade.
—Nov. 28 through Dec. 2: No school (Thanksgiving break).
—Dec. 23 through Jan. 6: No school (Christmas break).
—Jan. 7: School resumes.
—Jan. 20: No school (Martin Luther King Jr. Day).
—Feb. 17: No school (professional in-service day).
—March 24-28: No school (spring break).
—April 18: No school (Good Friday).
—May 26: No school (Memorial Day).
—May 28: Last day of school for students.
