Discussion

Indian Valley High School art teacher Sara Dittfeld shared with the board members and meeting attendees about these awards. There were 1,112 works at Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition, 59 of which were from this region, and Indian Valley had 10 of those works. There were 2,700 pieces of art at the state level, and Indian Valley High School senior Emily Lewis is one of those students. Indian Valley is the only school from Tuscarawas County with artwork at the state art exhibition.

—Approved the minutes for the regular board meeting on March 20.

—Approved the agenda for the current regular meeting.

—Approved financial reports as of March 31.

—Approved enrollment in the Sheakley Uniservice Worker’s Compensation Group Rating Program for the year Jan. 1, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2024. The enrollment fee is $750 with projected savings of $11,078.

—Approved the following supplemental appropriations for FY 2023: High Schools That Work, $5,000, and $42,000 for athletics.

—Approved a resolution ratifying the agreement for the purchase of natural gas supply for the period commencing June 1.

—Approved a five-year agreement with Pepsi Bottling Group LLC commencing July 1.

—Approved payment of monthly bills.

—Communication of Northeast Ohio School Boards Association Spring Conference legal and levy update.

—Presentation from Allison Bolon, head volleyball coach, about potential overnight trip for the high school volleyball team to Sandusky July 13-15.

—Academic report over cursive handwriting pilot and plans by Brandy Grant, school performance coach.

—Accepted the following grants and donations: School Nutrition Program, Supply Chain Assistance Grant, $45,096.98; anonymous donor, basketball program donation, $41,639.87; and Making Schools Work, Global Logistics & Supply Chain Management Award, $5,000.

—Approved the following overnight trips for the Indian Valley FFA Club: Ohio State FFA Convention in Columbus May 5-6, FFA Camp Officer Retreat in Carrollton May 31 through June 1, FFA Camp in Carrollton June 21-23 or June 23-26, and Washington Leadership Conference with dates to be determined based on student interest.

—Approved the list of students for graduation pending successful completion of the requirements of the Indian Valley Board of Education and the State of Ohio.

—Approved the Student Protective Agency/Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company as the provider of student accident insurance available for family purchase for the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved a resolution authorizing the district’s membership to the META Purchasing Cooperative at no cost to the district.

—Approved a resolution for the selection of Parnell & Associates Inc. as the contractor to perform district-wide parking and paving improvements for a base contract amount not to exceed $600,000 and to authorize the superintendent and treasurer to sign change orders related to the improvements up to a total not to exceed $50,000.

—Approved a resolution for the selection of Gor-Con Construction Inc. as the contractor to construct a storage building near the stadium for a base contract amount not to exceed $106,000 and to authorize the superintendent and treasurer to sign change orders related to the improvements up to a total not to exceed 10% of the contract sum.

—Approved a resolution to begin using Ohio Substitute Teacher Services for the substitute teacher management services commencing with the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved a scope and sequence for the instruction of cursive handwriting in fifth grade.

—Approved the creation of a second supplemental stipend for the position of freshman football coach commencing with the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved Krista Bower for a third one-year contract as a custodian, effective April 13.

—Approved the resignation of Jonathon Kneuss, assistant technology coordinator, effective April 14.

—Approved Joshua Anderson as a track volunteer for the 2022-23 school year, pending certification.

—Approved the following Washington, D.C. trip chaperones for the 2022-23 school year: Trent Couts, admin; Katie Carroll, trip coordinator; Kelsey Swaldo, nurse; Danielle McMillen; Maggie Pikna; Nicole Lucas; Chuck Albaugh; Katie Page; Stacy Bitikofer; Tyler Bardall; Tera Pryor; Melanie Glazer; Adam Gump; Andy Dean; Chad Peterman; and Phil Rangel.

—Approved the following classified substitutes for the 2022-23 school year: Reese Morris, Tiffany Brown, Travis Green and David Bolz.

—Approved Andrew Bache for FMLA leave from approximately April 17-26.

—Presentation from Jen Simmerman, head girls basketball coach, on a potential overnight trip for the high school girls basketball team to Sandusky July 12-13.

—Executive session for the purpose of the employment of a public employee and the investigation of complaints against a public employee with no further action to be taken.

The next Indian Valley Board of Education meeting will be held Monday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Indian Valley Board of Education Office, 100 N. Walnut St., Gnadenhutten.
