Meade enjoys helping first-graders start on right path
Becoming a teacher was almost destined for Heather Meade.
“I always wanted to be a teacher,” said Meade, a first grade teacher at Waynedale Elementary School. “Then as I grew older, I felt the Lord say that this was my calling so that I could bless children and show them how much potential they have.”
Meade has made many positive memories during her 28-year teaching career, but a few stand out more than others.
“My favorites are when I remember how much fun my class has, whether on a field trip, a book we’ve read or a science experiment,” she said. “I love remembering their joy and laughter.”
When Meade began teaching, she didn’t realize how much support she would receive from her students’ parents and her district’s administration.
“I have been so blessed to be in such a supportive and caring community,” she said.
Meade said there are a lot of rewarding parts of her job.
“I get to see children’s faces light up as they discover new things (and get) to see them realize they can read and do so many things,” she said. “I never go a day where I don’t get at least one hug.”
Refining her teaching approach is an ongoing process.
“I’m always reflecting and trying to find new ways or methods to reach each child where they are at,” Meade said.
Meade participated in marching and symphonic band, symphonic choir, and show choir when she was a student.
She enjoys being with her family, studying God’s Word, reading, doing crafts and attending her sons’ sporting events when she’s not teaching.
