Brent Miller and Jordan Boggs were appointed to fill two vacant seats on the Strasburg Board of Education during the Jan. 17 meeting. Miller will serve the beginning of a two-year term, and Boggs will fill a two-year unexpired term. They were administered the oath of office by treasurer Trevor Gummere. Both seats were effective Jan. 17. They were chosen from a field of six candidates.

Boggs thanked Stacy Bitikofer and West Hostetler for their years serving on the board. Bitikofer did not seek re-election, and Hostetler was elected to Strasburg Village Council.

“I am a 2004 Strasburg High graduate, and my children attend the school in the Strasburg school system. I feel I can bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to the board. I have always been interested in civics and have often wondered how I could get involved and help my community,” Boggs said. “My goals are to enhance experiences at Strasburg and make sure every child has an equal opportunity to succeed.”

Brent Miller wants to contribute to the district and to students who attend school in the district.

“I want to work with the school and administration,” he said. “My quote is ‘the whole is greater than some of its parts.’”

The board also did the following:

—Held a hearing for the proposed district school calendar for the 2024-25 school year. If approved, it will be adopted at the February board meeting. The first day of school would be Aug. 20, Christmas break would be two weeks, spring break would be one week and the last day for students would be May 30.

—Set the following committee appointments: Boggs, athletic representative; Diana Flickinger and Marsha Clark, policy; Kevin Harvey, Buckeye Career Center representative, OSBA legislative liaison and Capital Conference delegate, student achievement; Clark, OSBA Capital Conference alternate, district goals and district leadership team; Flickinger, negotiations; Clark and Brent Miller, calendar; Boggs, technology; Harvey and Miller, park-village liaison; and Flickinger, Tiger Foundation.

—Approved the renewal of the Total Care Program agreement from CCG Automation, from Nov. 1, 2023, to Oct. 31, 2024, at a cost of $23,183. This deals with the heating and cooling system at the school.

—Held an executive session to consider the employment of a public employee or official. No action was taken.
