Open house set at Williams Hall
The community is invited to take a first look inside the Ruth W. Williams Hall of Life Science at the College of Wooster. The open house for the facility that now houses the biology, chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, neuroscience, and environmental studies programs will be Friday, Aug. 17 from 3-6 p.m. The college’s newest academic building is located at the intersection of Pine Street and College Avenue.
During the open house, there will be hosts stationed on each floor of the building who will provide tours, and light refreshments will be served.
Williams Hall, which will be open for students when classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 22, has flexible teaching and research spaces designed to support collaboration and interdisciplinary work to enhance the close student-faculty collaboration and mentored research that are at the heart of a Wooster education.
Constructed over a 24-month period, Williams Hall contains state-of-the-art classrooms, dedicated labs where students and their faculty mentors will pursue their Independent Study research, community spaces for interdisciplinary conversations, and even a greenhouse. It also features a two-story commons area and café, which were gifts from the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation Inc. of Cincinnati.
The building is named for Ruth Whitmore Williams (’62), an alumna and trustee of the college from 1994-2015. In addition to their generous support of Ruth W. Williams Hall, she and her husband Morris established an endowed professorship in biology and four endowed scholarships for students during “Wooster’s Promise: A Campaign for Our Future.”
There will be an official dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Williams Hall on Saturday, Oct. 27.
