Renner named new principal at Hiland
The East Holmes School Board of Education approved Tyler Renner to serve as the next principal at Hiland High and Middle School beginning with the 2022-23 school year.
Renner, who attended Garaway High School, where he was a two-sport star in basketball and baseball, is a 2008 graduate of Malone University and earned his principal’s license at Ashland University in 2016. He is currently the principal at West Holmes High School.
Renner will replace interim principal and former longtime principal Matt Johnson.
In discussing Johnson’s willingness to return to serve as interim principal this past year, the board released a statement saying, “We are grateful that Mr. Johnson was willing to step back into this role as it allowed the district time to complete a full search this school year. Thank you Mr. Johnson.”
The board said it is excited to welcome Renner as the leader at Hiland. Renner has spent the last 13 years as an educator, coach and administrator at West Holmes High School. At West Holmes he taught history for seven years, was the high school assistant principal for four years and was principal for two years. In addition, Renner coached baseball and basketball for five years.
Through his education and experiences, Renner has developed strong leadership skills. He is a team-oriented leader with strong relationship skills and work ethic that will work well in enhancing a collaborative and positive school environment at Hiland.
Renner said of his move east, “I am extremely excited and humbled to have this opportunity to lead and serve in the East Holmes School District. I have great admiration and respect for the communities that make up East Holmes, and I cannot wait to be a part of the great tradition at Hiland High and Middle School.”
He lives in Sugarcreek and is married to his wife Carol, who is a teacher at Dundee Elementary, and they have two children, Anderson and Emma.
