The Resident Educator program has provided new teachers employed by the New Philadelphia School District with a smooth transition into their first year of teaching with the district. Each new teacher is matched with a veteran teacher, who has taken specific college courses in mentoring. The group meets throughout the school year on topics that are aligned to the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession. During the meeting in April, mentees toured the community to learn more about services available to area children. The tour included the Chrysalis Counseling Center, ECO Educational Service Center, T-4-C, Quaker Digital Academy, Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts, YMCA, public library and Big Brothers Big Sisters. As a culmination of the year’s efforts, area Realtor Jan McInturf will host a dinner at the Pro’s Table for all mentors and mentees. The Resident Educator program is coordinated by Tina Morris. Mentors are: Carrie Morales, Mary Beth Edwards, Nancy Cooke, Marna Dinger and Tina Morris. New teachers involved in the program are: Brittany Perkowski, Gwen Warnes, Kim Stroup, Jessica Clapper, Ryan Holmes, Rachelle Harrison, Vanessa McCoury, Kristen Paumier, and Lenita Bell.
