Schupbach named winner of 2009 Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music Concerto Competition
Laura Schupbach of New Philadelphia was named the winner of the 2009 Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music Concerto Competition. She competed against 12 other finalists for the right to perform with the B-W Symphony Orchestra in concert on Dec. 4 at 8 p.m.During the competition, each finalist performed a portion of a major work written for soloist and orchestra. Schupbach performed Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915. The text is taken from a prose piece by James Agee. She will perform the work on Dec. 4.
Schupbach, daughter of Dyan Schupbach, is a senior vocal music education major. She is a member of the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association and the Women’s Chorus, where she is a student conductor. She also is a MusicPlay intern with Conservatory Outreach. MusicPlay is a music enrichment program for toddlers. Schupach graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 2006.
