Students complete community service project
Akron Childrens Hospital recently recognized students from QDAs Junior and National Honor Society for their efforts in collecting more than 100 books valued at over $500. The books were to be presented to children who are hospitalized there. The hospital sent a letter of appreciation to the NHS members for their kind contribution.
The unique situation for this project is that the QDA National Honor Society meets monthly via the Internet. Students, who live throughout Ohio, agreed to work collectively toward this worthy community service project. Students collected books, donated books and purchased new books through their book fair sales held this winter. They gathered their donations at the New Philadelphia QDA location, where they were packaged and shipped to the hospital in March.
Quaker Digital Academy (QDA) is a K-12 public charter online school located in New Philadelphia. QDA has two other locations in Steubenville and East Liverpool. QDA enrollment is at 658 students statewide. In 2010, QDA was granted a National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) charter.
