Buckeye Career Center has named the March Student of the Month recipients. Two high school students were chosen for the honor for demonstrating March’s core value of servant leadership. An adult education student was also selected.

Nanami Whitman, a senior in CAD/Development & Design, is one of the March high school Students of the Month. Whitman attends BCC from Claymont.

At BCC, Whitman is a two-year member of the National Technical Honor Society and one-year member of Drug Free Clubs of America. At Claymont, she ran cross-country and track and participated in mock trial.

She attends the Church of the Nazarene and enjoys crafting and running. Whitman plans to attend the University of Akron next year to study Aerospace Systems Engineering. She is the daughter of Juri and Terry Whitman.

The second high school Student of the Month is Chance Schaar, a senior, double-lab student, in Commercial Truck and Ag. & Diesel. Schaar’s partner school is Carrollton.

At BCC, Schaar is the SkillsUSA vice president and earned a bronze medal in prepared speech at regionals this year. In the community, he participates in Adopt-A-Highway, volunteers at food banks, has been in 4-H for 11 years, and is a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout.

At Carrollton, he was a Spanish club member for two years. Schaar has applied to the Ohio CAT Think Big Program. He is the son of Todd and Melissa Schaar.

March’s Adult Student of the Month is Caitlin Durr. Durr is a 2018 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and is currently enrolled in the BCC Adult Education Dental Assisting program. She works as the assistant librarian at the Newcomerstown Public Library. Durr hopes to become a certified dental assistant upon graduation and wants to continue schooling to become an expanded functions dental assistant.

The three will be honored at a later Buckeye Career Center Board of Education meeting and will receive photo banners to commemorate the honor. High school students will also receive $25 gift certificates to the Joe Carlisle Café & Marketplace, courtesy of Skyline Homes.
