Buckeye Career Center has named its October Student of the Month recipients. Two high school students were chosen for demonstrating October’s core value of communication. An adult education student also was named for the honor.

The first high school winner is law enforcement and fire and EMS technology senior Emmett Windle. He attends BCC from Garaway, where he has participated in football, basketball, baseball and wrestling. He is a seven-year Boy Scouts member and is employed by Park Street Pizza. At BCC he participates in Drug Free Clubs of America and the Good News Bible Study Club.

Windle’s law enforcement instructor Jim Myers nominated him for the honor. “Emmett worked hard as a junior and continues to do so this year. He never complains or offers excuses,” Myers said.

Following graduation, Windle plans to enter the police academy with hopes of working at the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office and eventually wants to become a SWAT officer. He is the son of James and Brenda Windle.

The second high school winner is exercise science and sports medicine senior Mylie Galigher. She attends BCC from Conotton Valley, where she is active in volleyball, softball, cheerleading, bowling, the CV Wish Squad and the National Honor Society. She also volunteers for the Conotton Valley biddy sports programs and works at the Atwood Dari Bar in the summer. At BCC she is a buckeye ambassador, the HOSA Future Health Professionals chapter president and was a 2024 HOSA International Leadership Conference qualifier. She also is a member of BCC’s National Technical Honor Society.

Her exercise science instructor Jamey Harlan nominated her for the honor. “Mylie continually shows her communication strengths as a leader in my lab and with HOSA. She also represents BCC in public by helping our marketing department as an ambassador and has grown so much since entering BCC last August,” Harlan said.

Galigher plans to attend college for a prechiropractic degree with future hopes of owning a chiropractic practice.

October’s Adult Education Student of the Month is aesthetics student Hallie Price. She is a Quaker Digital Academy graduate and owns her own business, PRO Cleaners. Price enrolled in the program because of her love for beauty and skin care. She hopes to use her education to open a second business, related to aesthetics. Price is married and has three children.

Her instructor Emma Brode nominated her. “She is always pushing herself to be better than the day before. She is always working extra on assignments, reading ahead or asking to retake an exam that she already passed because a 98% just isn’t as good as a 100%.”

The three were honored at the October board of education meeting.
