Buckeye Career Center has named the September Student of the Month recipients. Two high school students were chosen for the honor for demonstrating September’s core value of responsibility/accountability. An adult-education student also was chosen for the honor.

The Female Student of the Month is Madelynn Smith, a hospitality student from Indian Valley. Smith, a native of Port Washington, volunteers for Harcatus and was a member of pep club and the choir at Indian Valley. She enjoys painting and signing. She hopes to one day be employed with a steady job while enjoying her life.

Smith was nominated by her hospitality instructor, Mrs. Deb Ganyard. “Madelynn is a leader. She completes her work and does her very best with every task,” Ganyard said.

Smith is the daughter of Jacob and Jennifer Kula.

The Male Student of the Month is senior Trevor Myers of Dover, a meat cutting, deli and bakery student. Myers works at M & M Market and plays football. He enjoys being outdoors and eventually wants to own his own butcher shop.

Myers was nominated by his meat-cutting instructor, Mr. Scott Ripley. “Trevor has shown great leadership skills in my program. He has been a dependable student, willing to do what is asked of him,” Ripley said.

Myers is the son of Mark and Shelly Myers.

October’s Adult Student of the Month is Melissa Keiser from the medical assisting lab. Keiser, a Lakeland High School graduate, is currently employed by Vibrant Living at Trinity Hospital Twin City. She and her family live in Uhrichsville. After graduation she hopes to continue her current work while also using her new skills.

The three were honored at the October Buckeye Career Center board of education meeting and received photo banners to commemorate the honor. The high school students also received $25 Joe Carlisle Café & Marketplace gift certificates, courtesy of Skyline Homes.
