The monthly meeting of the Orrville City School Board of Education was held Sept. 21at Orrville High School.

The board meeting began with a series of speakers for the public participation portion of the meeting. A parent of an Orrville High School senior spoke about his daughter and concerns he has about a current teacher’s behavior including the teacher being in proximity to the daughter and to other students at the high school. Two other parents spoke about the district’s handling of harassment complaints. One parent spoke about board policies and procedures, which concluded the public participation portion of the meeting.

The board then addressed the consent agenda items. The board approved using cash accounting methods instead of the General Accepted Accounting Principles, which is costing the district money. Moving to the cash accounting method will allow those same funds to be allocated for educational purposes.

The board also accepted the resignation of Superintendent Jon Ritchie, effective Dec. 31.

The board turned to the superintendent’s agenda, which involved various personnel issues including hiring teachers, support staff, coaches and mentors. The board then went into executive session to discuss the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of an employee.

The next meeting of the board will be held Thursday, Oct. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Orrville High School.
