Historic Zoar Village and the Fort Laurens Museum are now offering virtual content.

On May 22 Historic Zoar Village will offer a free virtual field trip live on Facebook, starting at 10 a.m. Join them and visit the buildings of Zoar. Learn the history of Zoar and what life was like in the 1800s.

Costumed interpreters will take visitors around each of the buildings and share the stories of the Separatists of Zoar. It’s open to anyone of any age. If you attend a certain school or home-school co-op, let them know you plan to watch and they will mention your group live on the air.

Fort Laurens will follow suit on May 23, starting at 10 a.m.

Historic Zoar Village’s Facebook can be found at www.facebook.com/pg/HistoricZoarVillage/. There is no cost to participate in the virtual field trip.

History to-go boxes are now being offered for History Camp, scheduled July 15-18. Each day will transport students to another time in history. All supplies, worksheets, snacks and activities will be provided to each student in a to-go box organized by day. Boxes can be picked up in Zoar, or arrangements can be made on an as-needed basis. Students can then unbox their historical fun.

The history to-go boxes are matched up with the virtual content, making the camp completely interactive. Virtual content will include costumed interpreters, tours and instructions on activities. If you cannot participate live, a link will be provided to have your hands-on history later.

July 15 will be Zoar History Day, looking at life in the 1830s. July 16 will be Zoar in the Civil War, exploring the history of the Civil War and its role in Zoar. July 17 will take students back to the American Revolution with Fort Laurens Day. Virtual activities will take place live from 1-4 p.m.

History Camp will still be held in person if possible. History Camp To-Go is their alternative if state guidelines are not eased or if anyone is more comfortable participating virtually at home. All in-person history campers will be given a to-go box if guidelines are not lifted before the scheduled History Camp dates. The cost for History Camp To-Go Unbox History is $10 per day or $25 for all three days.
