“Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age,” a movie and conversation for parents and teens who want to use technology without allowing it to take over their lives, will be shown Wednesday, Jan. 29 at Wooster United Methodist Church, 243 N. Market St., Wooster.

How much time do you spend negotiating with your kids over screen time? Are you concerned about what they’re watching on YouTube or the content of the video games they’re playing?

“Screenagers,” originally released in 2016 and updated in 2024, is an award-winning film that probes into the corners of family life and depicts struggles over social media, video games and academics. The film offers solutions about how to help kids navigate the digital world.

Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw the struggle with technology in her own children and learned the average kid spends about 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time.

The free 90-minute program will begin at 6 p.m. at the church and will include the showing of the movie, followed by time for table conversation and dialogue with community leaders including Sara Reith, the executive director of OHuddle Mentorship, which has a presence with over 600 students in school districts throughout Wayne County, as well as Orrville City Schools Superintendent Dr. David Toth and Patrick Frato, Ed.S. of Cleveland State.
