Seniors can review the rules of the road in AARP Driver Safety Class
Seniors and all drivers who are 50 and older can brush up on their driving skills during the upcoming AARP Driver Safety Class scheduled for July 17 at Union Hospital.
The four-hour class is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospitals Rosenberry Conference Room located next to the hospital cafeteria. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers to cover the cost of the class and materials and is payable the day of the class.
The class is limited to 24 participants and registration is requested. Registration can be completed on the hospitals website at www.unionhospital.org by selecting the Health Events link or by calling 330-602-0778.
The class features a review of the rules of the road, coaching on defensive driving skills and advice on how to drive safely in todays increasingly challenging driving environment. The class also assists senior drivers to understand and adjust to changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.
The class will give senior drivers a better understanding of the effects of aging on driving skills and how they may be affected by medications they are taking. Instruction is given in the classroom only. No driving or written tests are given as part of the program.
Those who complete the AARP Driver Safety Class may be eligible for premium discounts from their automobile insurance company.
