The 89th annual Wenger Reunion comes to Holmes County

                        
The 89th annual Wenger Family Association, which includes variant spellings of Winger, Whanger, Wanger, Wengerd, Wengert, Wingerd, Wingert, Wingard and Wingart, will convene in Holmes County, August 19-21. At the 7 p.m. on Friday, the historical meeting will be held at the Gospel Light Conservative Mennonite Church, three miles north of Walnut Creek on CR 168, and will feature a panel made up of Daniel L. Wenger, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; Ernest L. Heller, of Johnstown, Pa.; Jay V. Wenger, of Akron, Pa.; and others speaking on Finding the Wenger’s in the state of Ohio. At 8 a.m., Saturday, August 20, a tour of Wengerd family sites of Holmes County will begin at the Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center, CR 77, Berlin. The tour includes the admission to Behalt, the 265-foot cyclorama that illustrates the Anabaptist movement, the one-room school, and the barn that houses the Conestoga wagon that brought Isaac Wengerd’s wife from Somerset County, Penn. The tour will also stop at the Ohio Amish Library to see the 1744 Christian Wengerd Froschauer bible. A 2 p.m. reunion meeting will be held at the Gospel Light Conservative Mennonite Church, featuring Ernest L. Heller, of Johnstown, Pa., speaking on trying to make sense of the (K-line) Amish Wengerds. A family dinner at the Dutch Valley Restaurant, 1343 Old Route 39, Sugarcreek, at 6 p.m., will feature Charles E. Hurst and David L. McConnell of The College of Wooster, speaking on An Amish Paradox - Diversity and Change in the World’s Largest Amish Community. The Sunday, August 21, morning worship will be at the Gospel Light Conservative Mennonite Church, at 10:30 a.m., featuring Pastor John H. Wengerd speaking, with a lunch following at noon.
