Beginning Tuesday, May 30, children can sign up for summer reading and receive a start-up package at the Dover Public Library.

The start-up package for the first 250 kids signing up will include a summer reading bingo tracker to track the child’s reading progress and give them chances to win prizes. They also will get a bag filled with goodies and coupons for summer events.

Every child who signs up before June 21 will get a free treat voucher to use at the Kona Ice truck, which will be at the library on June 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The voucher is good for that day only at the library.

When the bingo tracker is filled out and returned to the library, the child will be entered into an end-of-summer drawing for a grand prize of a Nintendo Switch Light and accessory pack, plus more than 20 other prizes of gift certificates and games.

The first tracker completed will give the child a prize book and goodies, and each additional tracker will give more chances for prizes.

On Saturday, June 3, kids will do an Oliver K. Woodsman assembly with wood, screws, nuts and bolts. They also will get to see where exactly Oliver has traveled by taking a look at the library’s Ohio and United States maps that have been pinned. Library cards Oliver has brought back from as far away as Alaska and from 25 Ohio libraries will be on display. Registration is required.

June events will continue with make your own board game on Tuesday, June 6.

On Saturday, June 10, there will be Mother Goose games, and there will be a family board game day on June 13 where families or kids can play any of the board games set up around the children’s department.

On Saturday, June 17, the library will have a Mario Kart Track set up. Kids can use one of the library’s carts to run the track, receive Mario masks and slap bracelets, and play ring the horn on Bowser’s shell game.

On June 21 Kona Ice will be at the library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and local police officers and firefighters will bring their trucks on June 28.

July programming will start July 5 with a bubble party.

On July 8 there will be a What Pet Should I Get? program where Elizabeth Slater will bring animals to show the kids. Registration is required. Also on July 8, there will be the annual park day including games, activities and treats.

On July 15 a Bluey construction program will take place, and July 28 will conclude the summer programs with a life-size Hungry, Hungry Hippo game.

Story times also will take place at 10 a.m. if there is not a program on Wednesdays or Saturdays.
