Letter to the Editor:

East Holmes School District community: During this political/voting/election season, the administration and board share a local reminder and note of thanks. In spring 2000, the East Holmes community passed a 0.924 mill bond levy to benefit East Holmes schools. To finance the levy, the East Holmes taxpayer paid $28.89 per $100,000 of real-estate valuation. This generous contribution generated $3.1 million over the past 20 years. This winter, 2020, the board of education will make its last bond payment, and the bond levy will expire, making the East Holmes District fully debt-free.

As promised, the bond money was spent to expand and improve district school buildings and facilities at Hiland High School/Middle School. A partial list of projects includes 11 classrooms (new rooms for band, art, choir and science), a new library, added and upgraded restrooms, and expanded cafeteria and kitchen space for meal preparation. This investment continues to serve our students well.

Every day you entrust your children to us, we as administration, board and teachers take the health, safety and quality education as a serious responsibility. Your support in so many wonderful ways is much appreciated. Thank you.
