Exchange club supports literacy
The Dover Exchange Club Children’s Foundation is partnering with the United Way of Tuscarawas County to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Imagination Library is a program initiated by Dolly Parton to foster childhood literacy. The program is designed to provide books to children from birth to their fifth birthday. Each month an age-appropriate book is mailed directly to the child from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Tennessee at no cost to the recipient. The only criteria is the child must be under 5 years of age to enroll in the program.
Studies show a child’s brain is already 80% developed by age 3. By reading to a child and showing them pictures, a child will learn words and sounds, recognize pictures, and better understand emotions. This gives them a better understanding of reading and learning by the time the child begins kindergarten.
The Dover Exchange Club initially funded books for one full year for up to 100 children in Tuscarawas County. The Dover Exchange Club encourages parents of newborns to 5-year-old children that are not currently enrolled in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to enroll them by going online to www.OhioImaginationLibrary.org. Enrollment is free.
Those without internet access can call the United Way at 330-343-7772 to request an enrollment form. Email the United Way at info@tuscunitedway.org.
