Free tai chi classes start June 15
The Falls Prevention Program of the Holmes County General Health District, in association with Holmes County Park District, will offer Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance. This free 11-week course will be held Tuesdays from June 15 through Aug. 24 from 5:45-6:30 p.m. at the Millersburg Depot/HIPP Station Pavilion in Millersburg. The instructors for the class will be Kerry MacQueen and Cheryl Seabright.
Adults age 60 and over are highly encouraged to register. The eight movements participants will learn are low impact in nature and put little stress on muscles and joints. Research has shown this form of exercise can help improve an individual’s strength, balance and flexibility, helping to prevent falls. Be sure to wear loose-fitting clothing for easy movement and bring bottled water to remain hydrated.
Due to COVID-19, individuals must preregister by calling the health district at 330-674-5035 ext. 251. A maximum of 14 participants will be allowed for the class, and no walk-in registration will be allowed. A waiting list will be compiled once the maximum has been met, but no one will be added after week two of the class. A registration form and liability waiver will be sent out to each registered participant and must be returned on the first day of class.
Participants will be socially distanced during class. All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed per state orders. Participants who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear a mask, unless they choose to do so. Hand sanitizer will be made available.
For questions call MacQueen at 330-674-5035 ext. 251.
