Buckeye Deli to celebrate grand opening of The Patio
For many years Buckeye Deli has been an integral part of the Nashville community, dishing out pizza, great food and hospitality to both locals and travelers passing through.
Co-owners Aaron Galbraith and Katie Domer have enjoyed providing quality food and an inviting atmosphere for people since purchasing the deli about one year ago.
Two years ago then-owner Steve Miller took Buckeye Deli to a whole new level, introducing a new meat smoker that has seen him provide smoked meats for customers. In addition, it paved the way for him to create a catering company that offers full meals for parties, graduations, reunions and more, all centered around his smoked meats.
After purchasing the deli, the duo wanted to put their signature stamp on the business.
No, they didn’t decide to change the recipe for the pizza, something Galbraith said many people asked him about.
“Why change something that’s not broken?” he said.
Instead, they took the open outdoor patio idea Miller had brewing and reconstructed it into an enclosed patio that presents an inviting atmosphere in an air-conditioned area.
“We wanted to create a space that was comfortable, a place where people feel like they can stop in, have a few drinks and relax and not feel like the people next to them are too loud or they have to shout because the music is too loud, or they can simply come in and enjoy the company of their friends and family,” Galbraith said.
On Sept. 1 the duo will present the grand opening of The Patio at Buckeye Deli.
Starting at 3 p.m., The Patio will offer a special meal of a half-rack of baby back ribs, a baked potato and smoked corn on the cob. The fun will progress throughout the evening, with karaoke and disc jockey Dave Tennant cranking up the excitement from 6-10 p.m.
While there, visitors can spin a prize wheel for patio merchandise, goodies from local vendors, Ohio Lottery tickets, deli freebies and more.
During the event, 10% of all draft sales will go to support the Western Holmes Fire District.
“We are working very hard to be an integral part of the community and to share our lives with everyone here,” Galbraith said. “We obviously want to make money here, but we want to give back and build quality relationships. That is what makes this area so unique.”
Galbraith, who grew up not far from Nashville and went to West Holmes High School, and Domer, who grew up in Wayne County but worked for many years in Holmes County, understand the value of building relationships in small communities.
They said they recognize it even more after moving away to Sioux City, South Dakota for six years before coming back home and purchasing the deli.
“Steve had a great vision for the deli and for the patio, but we wanted to put a little bit of our own vision into it, so we enclosed it and made what we feel is a really neat place for people to gather and relax,” Galbraith said.
With glass garage doors that can be opened if they desire, they also put a live edge bar in The Patio.
Both co-owners said they are eager to introduce The Patio to more and more people as they welcome visitors to stop by and make it somewhere families and friends can sit down, relax and visit.
Buckeye Deli is located at 124 E. Millersburg St. in the heart of Nashville.
