Can-Am Spyder Ryders travel Holmes County
Amish Country is known for attracting visitors from all over the world, with roads that are bumper to bumper with vehicles, RVs, bikes and buggies. Recently, a group of 30 Can-Am Spyder Ryders added their presence as they wove their web throughout Amish Country.
The Ohio Amish Spyder Ryde took place Aug. 10-13, with the group lodged at the Berlin Grande Hotel.
On Friday evening several of the ryders took a one-hour sundown ride throughout Mount Hope, where it came upon a group of kangaroos. It was so impressive a portion of the route Saturday morning was used to return to the location where the family raised the kangaroos. The day continued throughout Charm, Farmerstown, New Bedford, Baltic and Sugarcreek. The group was introduced to having a haystack lunch in an Amish home near Winesburg.
La Vonne De Bois, a longtime promoter of tourism and former owner of Amish Heartland Tours, went from tour bus to Spyder Ryder.
“I would have never thought I would be leading a group of motorcycle riders throughout the backroads,” she said. “However, I learned to never say never.”
After purchasing the three-wheel motorcycle in 2017, De Bois has ridden over 70,000 miles from coast to coast and even Canada. De Bois is one of several Spyder Ryders from the Medina area that attends various rallies. Last fall she and Anita Soto attended a rally in the Catskills, Finger Lakes of New York.
“Meeting other Spyder Ryders has opened up a whole new meaning of tourism,” De Bois said. “I still enjoy and have the knowledge and experience of sharing beautiful Holmes County with visitors, even if they ride motorcycles.
“Ryders are always looking for locations to ride scenic backroads. I offered the opportunity to visit our area and was very pleased with the turnout. We then opened up the rally to the Mahoning Valley Spyder Ryder club from Youngstown, which brought 17 ryders.”
The weekend concluded with an option to join the Grace Church Biker Sunday ride, and at the end of the day, everyone was in agreement to do the rally again next August.
