The next Civil War Round Table will be held Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the schoolhouse on the grounds of the Wayne County Historical Society, 546 E. Bowman St., Wooster.

The program will be Wooster resident Harry McClarran as his great-grandfather Harrison O. McClarran, speaking about Harrison’s life, experience in the war of the rebellion, running a grocery, and his political experiences and observations of growth and development in downtown Wooster.

A lifelong resident of Wooster, Harry McClarran graduated from Salem College and Marshall University before returning home to work for the City of Wooster Water Pollution Control Plant for 22 years as a Class 3 wastewater operator.

He is a fourth-generation Chautauquan and served on the 1976 bicentennial committee. He has been a Civil War reenactor with the 16 OVI and marched in Jimmy Carter’s inaugural parade as his last event. In 2003 he was honored by Main Street Wooster for his historical knowledge of downtown Wooster and named first official historian to Wooster. He’s the author of two picture books — “A Glimpse from the Front Porch” and “A Tribute to Wooster, Guarding its Past, Present and Future.”

He also is a lifelong member of the Wayne County Historical Society, where he writes in the quarterly newsletter. He is currently concluding a 10-year study of the Wooster Fire Department.

The Wayne County Civil War Round Table is free and open to the public. On Sept. 19 there will be parking onsite (enter from the Spink Street entrance) and along the fence in the Drug Mart parking lot. For more information about the Wayne County Historical Society, visit waynehistoricalohio.org.
