Several Christmas-related events will take place in Loudonville on Saturday, Dec. 2.

The annual Christmas parade will begin at 2 p.m., starting at the Loudonville Public Library and going down Main Street. The Holiday Shop Hop, which features specials and holiday sales from local businesses, will coincide with the parade.

“There are different organizations and groups (that participate in the parade),” said Valerie Spreng, Loudonville Chamber of Commerce executive director. “There are businesses that do it. The different school groups do it sometimes. The band does it, and Leo clubs sometimes. And then sometimes there are individuals that like to participate too.”

Santa Claus, the main attraction, will ride on a fire truck as the last of the parade participants.

“Everybody has a lot of fun (during the parade),” Spreng said. “We have a theme for the parade, which is Christmas carols and candy canes. And we have awards for first, second and third place for the best float that’s in the parade.”

Some Loudonville businesses will decorate their storefront windows on Thursday, Nov. 30 as part of the window-decorating contest. The entries will be judged the following day, with the winners announced after the parade.

“We do a holiday window-decorating contest to try to get people to participate a little bit more and make the town look festive and that kind of stuff,” Spreng said.
