Now is the time to reserve space in Wooster’s parks
Wooster offers more than a dozen options for affordable pavilion rentals during the spring, summer and fall. While winter snows and blows outside, it might be a great time to shop for a picnic basket and make plans to enjoy a day at a city park with family and friends when warmer weather returns.
The city has an array of park pavilions that are available to rent through the warmer months, and reservations opened at the beginning of the year for these first come, first served sites. Available for anything from a reunion to a baby shower or a picnic with extended family, there is a range of venues available with varying capacities and a variety of amenities.
—Christmas Run Park, located north of Bowman Street and between Grant and Woodland, is known for a scenic covered bridge and the Kiwanis playground, along with recently updated pickleball and basketball courts. Christmas Run has six pavilion options including the east and west wing area adjacent to the main playground that also features a serving area.
—Freedlander Park, located at 400 Hillside Drive, has been a part of Wooster since 1962. Along with the pool and playground, there are three softball fields, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, a fishing pond and 18 holes of disc golf intertwined throughout the park. Freedlander offers four pavilions and the chalet venue. Find more about the chalet at www.thechaletatfreedlanderpark.com/.
—Clear Creek Pavilion, located on Venture Boulevard next to Aspen Racquet Club and Seaman Corporation, was built in 2022. The park offers a walking trail and playground.
—The Jaycee Pavilion at Jaycee Park offers a spot for small gatherings with a renovated playground and open spaces. It is located between Spink Street and Gasche Street, just south of University and The College of Wooster.
—Knights Field has a large pavilion and is home to a playground and “spray” ground. Check availability of children’s amenities while improvements are being made. There also are nine horseshoe pits. This park is located on Rebecca Street, just west of Massaro Avenue.
—Oak Hill Park, located on Oak Hill Road near Wooster High School, was dedicated in 2011. With a winding, paved 1.7-mile walking path, this park has a large pavilion.
