Ricky Skaggs to present concert to aid Kentucky
When it comes to giving hearts and reaching out to help those in need, the folks in Amish Country don’t take a backseat to anyone.
An upcoming event to raise funds for families struggling following major flooding in Kentucky will see a renowned bluegrass and country music icon join the effort.
Superb Sealing Solutions will present the Kentucky Flood Fundraiser Concert on Thursday, Sept. 22 at Timbercrest Camp & RV Park, near Winesburg, as part of the Superb Food Independence Summit.
The music festival will bring in a well-known performer in Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. The gates for the concert will open at 6 p.m. with the performance beginning at 7 p.m.
Skaggs is internationally renowned as a country and bluegrass legend, hailing from the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, and has developed a reputation as being a voice for the common folks. Skaggs is a 15-time Grammy Award winner, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. His passion for bluegrass music has helped preserve the musical genre and created a legacy of the most talented artists of his generation.
Promoter John Miller traveled to Kentucky following the horrific flood to witness the destruction and experience the heartache of the people firsthand. After recognizing the great sorrow and immense need, Miller decided to do something about it.
“The devastation was heartbreaking,” Miller said. “There is an unbelievable amount of need there, and we wanted to create something that could raise money to help. It was really all Ricky’s idea, and he and Kentucky Thunder will be pouring their hearts out for an enjoyable evening and donating the proceeds to Kentucky flood restoration.”
One of Miller’s sales representatives at Superb Industries happened to be friends with Skaggs, and Skaggs quickly agreed to present a concert as a fundraiser for the people of Kentucky who have been hit hard by the flood.
“John was very touched by what he saw in Kentucky and wanted to find a way to help,” co-sponsor Marcus Wengerd said. “Those people are hard-working, good people with not a lot of resources, and while they don’t ask for much, they will put any funds to good use.”
All proceeds for the concert will go directly to the struggling families who were heavily affected by the floods.
The concert will benefit two different organizations providing aid to Kentucky, those being Samaritan’s Purse and LifeNets.org. If someone would like to donate and won’t be able to attend the concert, they may do so by visiting www.foodindependence.life, where people can opt to donate to either one or both of the organizations.
Tickets are available at www.foodindependence.life. Tickets for the event are $50, with all proceeds from the charity concert fundraiser going to the families of the Kentucky floods.
Timbercrest Camp and RV Park is located at 5552 state Route 515, near Winesburg.
