Schlabach Wood Design holds groundbreaking ceremony
Schlabach Wood Design, a family-owned custom cabinetry firm, recently broke ground on the next phase of expansion for its campus in Baltic.
The 7,200-square-foot expansion will include a 2-story addition to the existing campus, bringing the square footage to 63,000. The first floor will grow the preinstallation and shipping departments as they stage the product for final quality control inspections and then load the cabinetry into trucks for shipping. The second story will be dedicated to the drafting and engineering departments as they design and detail each piece of the custom-ordered cabinetry. The final element of the expansion is a new 2,300-square-foot showroom space for the business.
“Our shop teams have grown adept at getting the job done with too little space; it’s time we give them a proper space to do a proper job,” CEO Michael Schlabach said. “The new retail showroom is a dream come true; it will give us a chance to showcase how our cabinetry can enrich your home and family life. Folks are pleasantly surprised to find we are able to meet budgets from the middle of the market all the way up to the high-end projects. We build three distinct lines of cabinetry, which gives our designers flexibility to work within our clients’ budget.”
“Schlabach Wood Design understands the true meaning of creating satisfying environments,” scheduling manager Lindsey Schlabach said. “Our comprehensive service from design to final installation goes beyond the initial project and ensures lasting client satisfaction.”
Designed in the Prairie style of architecture pioneered by Frank Lloyd Wright, the exterior façade will provide a face-lift to the facility. Founded in 1994 as a furniture shop by Willis Schlabach, an early request for a kitchen led to a switch in focus, and the company has grown in both size and scope ever since, currently employing 110 people.
“We’ve been blessed to reach our 30th anniversary and, once construction is complete, will be excited to plan an open house to share this new facility with the community,” said Willis Schlabach, now serving as chairman of the board.
Present for the groundbreaking ceremony was Willis Schlabach and his wife Ruth; the second generation of family ownership, Michael Schlabach and Lindsey Schlabach; Reuben Burkholder, general contractor of Barrs General Construction; excavator Mark Brinkman; and various team members from the company.
Schlabach Wood Design designs, builds and installs cabinetry for all parts of the home. In addition to working with designers out of state, Schlabach Wood Design maintains its own full-service showroom and design center in Baltic. Showroom hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
