Registration for Orrville Public Library’s Spring Story Time will begin Monday, Feb. 17. The program offers young children and their caregivers stories, songs, rhymes, music and age-appropriate crafts.

Story Times will begin the week of March 3 and run through April 14. Families can register via the library’s website at www.orrville.lib.oh.us or call the children’s department at 330-683-1065. Class sizes are limited. A Family Story Time is available without registration.

The Spring Story Time schedule includes sessions for different age groups. Lapsit Babies (babies not yet walking) meet Wednesdays from 10-10:30 a.m. while babies who are walking up to 24 months meet from 10:45-11:15 a.m. Two-year-olds with caregivers can attend Mondays or Tuesdays from 10-10:30 a.m. Three-year-olds meet Mondays or Tuesdays from 11-11:30 a.m. Children age 3-5 can join a Monday session from 6-6:30 p.m. Pre-K children (age 4-5 who have not attended kindergarten) meet Tuesdays from 2-2:45 p.m. A family drop-in session for all ages with caregivers is available Mondays from 7-7:30 p.m. and Tuesdays from 6-6:30 p.m.

Each session covers the same material, so children should be registered for only one time slot.

Brain Freeze Challenge

Students in fifth grade through eighth grade still have time to participate in Orrville Public Library’s Winter Brain Freeze Challenge. By reading for 20 minutes a day and reaching a total of 300 minutes, participants earn a treat coupon or small prize.

The challenge runs through Feb. 28. Students can track their reading minutes on a log sheet, available at the information desk. Completed logs can be returned for a chance to win a grand prize.

Palentine’s Day

Middle and high school students are invited to Orrville Public Library’s Palentine’s Party on Friday, Feb. 14 at 4 p.m. The event will feature games, crafts and snacks — with no red hearts in sight. No registration is required.

Deal with digital pics

Orrville Public Library is partnering with staff from Massillon Public Library for a free program on editing digital photos. Participants will learn simple techniques to enhance their images.

The session will take place Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s lower-level meeting room. Registration is required and will open Monday, Feb. 10. Sign up via the library’s website or by calling 330-683-1065.

Great Backyard Bird Count

The Great Backyard Bird Count, sponsored by the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, will run Feb. 14-17.

Participants can spend as little as 15 minutes observing and counting birds. Checklists of common local birds are available at the information desk. Observers can use the Merlin Bird ID or eBird apps to record sightings.

Those who submit their checklists to the information desk by Feb. 25 will be entered to win a bird-themed prize.

Adulting 101

Orrville Public Library’s Adulting 101 series continues with It’s Sew Easy, a session on basic mending skills. Participants can bring an item in need of minor repair and learn how to sew on a button, fix a seam or patch fabric.

The workshop will take place Monday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. in the library’s lower-level meeting room. Registration will open Feb. 10 and close Feb. 21.

Future Adulting 101 sessions include Tune Up and Drive on March 24; Fix, Clean, Organize on April 28; and Bingo Night on May 27.

“100” Challenge

As part of Orrville Public Library’s 100th anniversary celebration, the library has launched the “100” Challenge. Participants can choose to read 100 books, read for 100 days or visit the library 100 times.

Challenge sheets are available in each department to track progress. Participants who complete milestones at 25, 50 and 75 will earn small prizes and be entered into a drawing for a $100 grand prize. Those who complete all 100 challenges can choose a larger prize and earn another grand prize entry.

The challenge, which began Feb. 3, will continue through Dec. 3, 2025.
