Dover teen earns his Eagle Scout rank with project
Richard Tolloti of Dover recently was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Tolloti is the son of Jay and Lisa Tolloti and is a senior at Dover High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is co-captain of the swim team.
Tolloti is a member of Boy Scout Troop 5086 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover. Tolloti has been involved with Scouting for 12 years, starting out as a Cub Scout. He is currently serving as his troop’s assistant senior patrol leader and also is a member of Order of
the Arrow, Scouting’s honor society, where he achieved the rank of brotherhood.
For his project Tolloti designed and constructed a memorial wall and flagpole display at the Tuscarawas County Veterans Services Commission that honors each military branch. The U-
shaped wall consists of over 3,500 bricks and is approximately 4 feet high by 39 feet long. The flagpole display also is illuminated at night.
The Eagle Scout Award is the highest Scouting achievement attainable and is earned by only about 4% of Scouts. To be an Eagle Scout, several requirements must be fulfilled: progression through the lower ranks; obtaining 21 merit badges; serving six months in a troop leadership position; completing a service project for a religious, school or community organization; taking part in a Scout master conference; and successfully completing an Eagle Scout board of review.
