Like many bigger-name bands, when they are first formed, new groups are usually quite small and work their way up to success. That story is true for one Holmes County rock band. Seven years ago, The Saint Jimmies Band was formed in a band member’s basement and today, the band performs at many local venues throughout the year. Fans can rock out with the band as they plan to perform at the Killbuck Early American Days on Sunday, Sept. 5. “Luke Brewer and I have been friends for decades and we started the band one night in his basement, where we struggled for hours to play the easiest songs,” said Mitch Baker, band leader. “My little cousin Cory (Baker) joined to play the drums and we needed a bass player and Beach (Seth Beachy) was just sitting around, so we taught him some notes and away we went.” Baker’s older brother, Luke, joined the band about two years ago and started playing at different festivals where the band was performing. “He added a lot to our sound and elevated the band’s skill level, so we decided to make him a full-time member,” Baker said. The Saint Jimmies Band is composed of Mitch Baker, vocals, rhythm guitar and drums; Luke Brewer, rhythm guitar and lead vocals; Luke Baker, lead guitar and vocals; Cory Baker, lead guitar and drums; and Seth Beachy, bass guitar. Together they perform numerous shows at various local venues, especially throughout the warm summer months. “Outdoor venues, celebrations and festivals are our favorites,” Baker said. “Eldora Speedway was probably our biggest performance so far.” Classic rock fans would enjoy The Saint Jimmies Band as they play top rock favorites from CCR and the Beatles to Old Crow Medicine Show and older Kings of Leon material. “We love playing and entertaining the crowds,” Baker said. “The bigger, the better.” Many of the band members spend most of their time attending colleges around the state. Since practice makes perfect, sometimes it is difficult to get together as a whole band and practice with many of the members being away most of the year, but they always make it a priority to do so. “We make it a priority to come together and dedicate weekends, breaks and any free time to the band,” Baker said. “We have fun doing it, so we’re glad to sacrifice our time.” Baker added that all of the band members are happy spend time together because they get to play and perform with their absolute best friends. The band looks forward to playing at the Killbuck Early American Days and this will be the fifth year the band has performed in Killbuck. “The crowd is great and the atmosphere is enjoyable,” Baker said. “We know a lot of our fans and they show us their support at the Early American Days. It is fun seeing everyone dancing, singing and coming together to enjoy our music.” Everyone is invited to attend The Saint Jimmies Band performance at the Early American Days and fans can check out the official Saint Jimmies website for band profiles and to find upcoming show locations by visiting http://sites.google.com/site/thesaintjimmies.
