Troop 777’s Birthday Bags open the door to party time
Never let it be said Killbuck GSA Troop 777 doesn’t know how to have a fun time.
On the evening of Monday, March 10, the members of Killbuck Girl Scouts of America Troop 777 joined forces with members of Danbury of Millersburg to put together several dozen Birthday in a Bag gifts that were eventually passed along to Millersburg Head Start.
The gift bags were filled with all types of party supplies, from cake mix and frosting to party accompaniments like plate settings and gifts.
“In honor of March 12 being the Girl Scout’s birthday, we decided to put Birthday Bags together, and we will donate everything to the Head Start kids,” said April Parks, troop leader.
Parks, who works at Danbury of Millersburg, said she thought it would be neat to bring some of the residents on board to help with the effort.
The result was plenty of fun and laughter amid the workload.
“I thought it would be a great activity for not only us, but for the residents to get involved with,” Parks said. “The gifts are obviously the focal point, but this is also about us giving back to the community. It’s entertainment for the residents.”
She also said it helped to introduce the girls to an older generation, and it didn’t take long for both parties to break down any barriers.
While the troop had planned on making 20 gift bags, they were able to double that output thanks to a donation from the Millersburg Eagles #2418.
“We truly appreciate their support,” Parks said.
Once the bags were completed and checked to make sure each entailed everything needed for a party, Parks and several of the older troop members delivered them to Head Start.
Another aspect of the event is it showcased growth in the troop’s numbers. According to Parks, they are now up to 20 members from kindergarten through high school, 16 of which were present for the birthday bash.
The trips to Danbury in Millersburg won’t stop, with the group slated to set up a Pinewood Derby event later in March.
“We try to do as many exciting things in the community as we can,” Parks said. “We just finished up our annual cookie sales operation, which was really fun.”
With the troop creating 40 Birthday Bags, the fun won’t stop there, as now 40 youngsters and their family and friends can take what was provided and let the joy continue as they party on.
