Julie Krebs has been helping to put a smile on people’s faces in her role as a critical care nursery nurse at Akron Children’s Hospital and Wooster Community Hospital for the past 35 years.

This summer she and her husband Kenny are putting a twist on putting smiles on people’s faces.

The Krebs are the new proprietors of Twisted Cow Creamery, the newest addition to the area food truck world.

With a slate of cold products on the menu, Twisted Cow Creamery is providing “udderly” delicious treats.

The Twisted Cow hasn’t been around long, opening in the beginning of June of this year, but it has quickly become a family favorite among the many festivals and events in the area.

“Ever since I was little, I’ve wanted to be a carnie since the Holmes County Fair. I’ve wanted to have a food truck, and what better than to have one that offers ice cream,” Julie Krebs said. “It was an easy choice to go with ice cream because ice cream makes everyone happy.”

The couple purchased a former uniform delivery truck in Michigan and had it refurbished to create an inviting atmosphere full of color, along with the playful cow in a tornado that serves as the company logo, which Julie Krebs came up with herself.

A former dairy farmer and trucker by trade, owning Cornerstone Trucking, Kenny Krebs was able to do some of the maintenance work on the truck, with Titan Trucks out of Columbus putting all the food truck additions to the inside.

Once the truck was ready, it was a matter of crafting a tasty menu filled with the likes of twisters, which mix a variety of favorite ice creams with an assortment of candy mix-ins and toppings; ice cream nachos and cowlicks including the Road Apple, the Cow Jumped Over the Moon and The Cow-coa; and a variety of ice creams, floats, waffle cones and more.

Offering the cold treats is something that puts a smile on the Krebs’ faces, even as they are putting smiles on the faces of their customers.

“I’ve done nursing all of my life, and it’s a complete career change, and figuring out all of the business logistics has been challenging,” Julie Krebs said, adding it has been a joyful endeavor from the start.

“This has been her dream,” Kenny Krebs said. “I told her to just get out there and have fun with it this year. There are things you’ll change and different directions you’ll go moving forward, but for now just have fun and next year we will make adjustments and go at it harder.”

For Julie Krebs, the idea of making people happy is why she got into nursing, and it’s why she finds this endeavor such a joy.

“It’s been a blessing, and it’s been a lifelong dream come true,” Julie Krebs said.
