Strasburg Elementary students led the Veterans Day Celebration held Nov. 11 in the middle school gym. Each branch of the service was recognized, and photos of each veteran were displayed in a slideshow. About 80 veterans and their families attended, and kindergartners to fifth-graders were in attendance. A brunch was served. Students assisted the visitors, and door prizes were awarded to veterans. Art work created by the students graced the walls of the gym.

Strasburg Charles Hofer Post of the American Legion posted the colors. Rylie White, a fifth-grader, led the Pledge of Allegiance and explained the POW/MIA table presentation and what it means. The table was in the middle of the gym to recognize those who were taken prisoner of war or are missing in action. Students made a Veterans Day poem tribute video, and the choir for fourth and fifth grade provided music directed by Josh Loar.

A “Proud To Be an American” video sing-along also was displayed for all to join in the song.

The event was organized by teacher Jessica Barkley.

Fifth-grade students who participated were Rylie White, Shania Bunton, Lola Sundheimer, Ian Paisley, McKenna Kaiser, Morgan Becker, Maloree Herron and Charlotte Boggs, and fourth-graders who participated were Ryann Horne and Nikko Chewning.
