WEDC to hold Building Futures Manufacturing Nights
The Wayne Economic Development Council recently announced the upcoming Building Futures Manufacturing Nights, designed to inspire high school students and their parents about careers available in today’s manufacturing industry. Taking place from 5-8 p.m. on Mondays, Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, attendees will have the opportunity to visit manufacturers in both Wooster and Orrville.
With six participating manufacturers, guests can attend one or both nights and visit more than one manufacturer per night. Participating manufacturers include Akron Brass Company, BCI, Buckeye Corrugated, Schaeffler, The Wooster Brush Company, Moog and The Will-Burt Company.
In an evolving economy, manufacturing has transformed into a high-tech sector that offers numerous opportunities for young people looking to build careers. This event aims to change outdated perceptions of manufacturing. Attendees will see the advanced technologies and facilities that define modern manufacturing.
“We are looking forward to the event so that we can continue to build our relationships within the community,” said Matt Cherry, plant manager, BCI, Buckeye Corrugated. “We want to connect with the families of the next generation and provide a safe and lucrative environment, thus allowing them to have a career that will support their families for generations to come.”
What to expect
—Facility tours: Attendees will have the chance to tour local manufacturing facilities, witnessing firsthand the equipment and technologies that drive the industry.
—Career insights: Industry professionals will share their experiences, discussing various career paths in manufacturing from engineering to robotics and emphasizing the importance of technical skills in today’s job market.
—Tuition reimbursement programs: For those considering college, this event will highlight companies that offer tuition reimbursement and apprenticeship programs, providing a pathway to gain a degree while earning a salary.
In partnership with Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio and the Wayne County Schools Career Center, Building Futures Manufacturing Nights is a part of a series of three events designed to help students gear up for a career in manufacturing. Events include the following:
