Joey Alexander, 17, is a senior at West Holmes High School and the son of Tom and Irene Alexander. He paints and does yard work for his dad’s rental properties.
Joey’s favorite grade school teacher was “my fourth grade teacher, Mr. Coldwell, because he was an energetic teacher who taught us a lot about nature, and explained every subject so all the students could understand it.”
The teacher he feels has made the biggest impact on him was Mr. Dodd. “Mr. Dodd is a great and passionate music teacher who cares about all his students. He is very understanding when I am juggling my time to do soccer and band practice.”
A memorable scholastic experience was being inducted into the National Honor Society.
Joey’s extracurricular activities are soccer, track, marching band, Ski Club, playing drums for his church’s praise and worship teams and for the local band, and 4-H.
For the future, “I plan to go to college and become an athletic trainer and then go on and study to be a physical therapist.
His spare time is spent “listening to music, biking, water and snow skiing, (and) hanging out with my girlfriend and friends.”
Joey’s words of wisdom for younger students are, “Always do your best, and enjoy high school because your four years go fast.”
If he could change anything about the American school system, it would be, “More college prep classes or future career minded classes in high school.”

“Joey is an incredible young man with an extremely positive personality and excellent time management skills. He is putting a lot into his education and extra activities and is getting a lot back. He is making the most of it and is an excellent role model to students and staff alike. He is simply a well-rounded individual and well deserving of selection as Student of the Week.”
