Why it is important to save money for college: There once were two girls, Abby and Susan. They were best friends in high school, even though they were different in their work ethic. Abby and Susan graduated high school in the same year and they were both interested in attending college. Abby spent most of high school partying, shopping, and dating. As she went to apply to many colleges, she got turned down. She hadn’t gotten good grades and didn’t bother to get a job. So, Abby had no scholarship and had to take out many loans, which would only put her further in debt. Abby did get into a cheap school that she wasn’t considering as a choice. We will see later how she wishes she was more like Susan. Susan was an all-American girl. She was very athletic, had a 4.0, and volunteered in the community when she wasn’t working her part-time job. Susan had offers pouring in from many colleges, giving her scholarship money for sports and grades. She picked a very prestigious school to attend. Susan had saved money from her job to pay for any other costs. Susan was having a great time not having to worry about her money. Both girls graduated, one with honors and a job waiting her, the other graduated, but was still searching for a job after college and her debt was piling up. Susan is the successful grad that is starting a good life, being able to buy an apartment near her new job and paying off debts in a few months. Abby on the other hand, is back with her parents and is paying off debts still now. At the girls’ 15th high school reunion, they catch up on their houses and jobs. Abby is jealous of Susan’s mansion and great family, which makes her realize that she should have been more like Susan and saved for college instead of waiting. These stories are just an example of what saving money and working hard could do for you. My dad has given me advice about money and I have tried to take it in that college is approaching faster than I think and that I should be ready, by saving now.
