After serving as Wayne Countys Treasurer for 13 years, Beverly Shaw is retiring.
Shaws friends and colleagues gathered at the County Administration Building on April 27 to pay tribute to the woman who has tirelessly served the county since 1998.
Among the guests in attendance were the Wayne County Commissioners, who presented Shaw with a county flag and a proclamation in honor of her service to the county.
After 13 years of service representing the people of Wayne County as Wayne County Treasurer we extend our sincere appreciation and recognition for her dedicated service and our heartfelt wishes for a well deserved retirement, read Commissioner Ann Obrecht.
State Senator Larry Obhof also sent a congratulatory letter, which was read by Commissioner Scott Wiggam.
Your hard work and dedication to your profession, your co-workers and your community is admirable and should be commended, read Wiggam adding your efforts will have a lasting positive impact on your community and you will be missed.
Also on hand was Commissioner Jim Carmichael who read a proclamation by Ohio State Senate commending Shaws dedication to her constituents.

Your unflagging dedication to your job has inspired many whom you have known to devote themselves similarly, read Carmichael adding you will be sorely missed.
In addition to her service to the county, Shaw was an active member of numerous professional and political organizations including the Ohio County Treasurers Association, Northeast Ohio County Treasurers Association, the Wayne County Republican Party where she was elected to the Central Committee and appointed to the Executive Committee, and the Wayne County Republican Women.
Shaws service to the community extends well beyond her duties as an elected official.
In addition to serving as a past president of Quota International, Shaw has been an active member of the Womens Committee of the Wooster Symphony Orchestra, Wayne County Voices for Children, Womens Investment Network, Relay for Life and the American Heart Association and served on the United Way allocations committee.
Earlier this month Shaw, who was appointed Treasurer in 1998, announced her intention to retire effective April 29 in order to spend more time with her family.
Shaw, who noted that she was looking forward to traveling with her family, reflected on her 13 years in office.
Ive loved it, said Shaw adding I really want to thank everybody for the companionship and the camaraderie that I have felt since I got into office. The people were wonderful to work with.
I didnt know if I would ever know if I was ready to retire. Its just something old people do. Well guess what? Im old and Im retiring, joked Shaw.
Anyone who knows Bev knows that she has this loving, kind, gentle heart and when she talks about her family you can see that in every breath she takes, said County Auditor Jarra Underwood, who along with County Recorder Jane Carmichael and Shaw were jokingly dubbed the Pack of Wolves or the Rat Pack by County Sheriff Tom Maurer.
Im going to miss her terribly, said Underwood.
The task of appointing Shaws successor falls to the Wayne County Republican Party Central Committee.
According to committee member Jim Carmichael, the committee will meet on May 7 to make a final decision on Shaws replacement.
Earlier in the day the commissioners swore in Deputy Treasurer Dawn Zerrer as Acting Wayne County Treasurer effective on April 29.
Zerrer will continue to serve in that role until Shaws permanent successor takes the oath of office.
