102411 City of Wooster announces leaf pick up schedule
Summary: Its that time of year again when residents begin raking leaves to the tree lawn in anticipation of the citys annual leaf collection program, which is scheduled to get underway on October 31.
As the leaves change from deep green to brilliant shades of red, orange and yellow and fall one by one from tree branches, local residents are once again beginning the fall ritual of raking leaves and moving them to the curb in anticipation of the City of Woosters annual leaf removal program.
The annual rite of fall is set to get underway on Monday, Oct. 31 as the city begins the process of clearing tons of leaves from the citys tree lawns.
According to an announcement made by the City of Wooster, the city has been divided into nine sections, each with its own unique leaf pick up schedule.
As has been the case in previous years, the city will be conducting two rounds of leaf pickup. This year the first round of pick up is set to begin on Monday, Nov. 31 with Section One and concludes with Section Nine on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The second round of leaf collection begins on Wednesday, Nov. 16 with Section One and concludes on Friday, Dec. 9 with Section Nine.
According to a letter to Wooster residents dated Oct. 17 from Wooster Mayor Bob Breneman leaf removal operations can be more effective and efficient if residents follow a few simple tips.
All leaves must be placed at the curb the day before a street is scheduled for pickup. The city will only remove leaves on a particular street on the date that street is scheduled for pick up and will not return to a particular house or street if the leaves are not at the curb when the truck passes by.
Breneman also recommends that residents advise their landscapers of their particular pick up dates so that the leaves will be ready for pick up in advance of the pickup days.
In the event of unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather or equipment breakdowns, Breneman noted that the schedule may be a day behind schedule but the leaves will be picked up.
Breneman also stated that leaves must be raked to the tree lawn or to the edge of the road in three to four foot wide windows. He also cautioned that leaves should not be placed in the street or behind obstructions such as sidewalks, trees and signs.
Residents are also advised to remove their cars and other vehicles from the street by 7:00 a.m. on the dates scheduled for their pickup, as leaves will not be rakes from around cars.
Breneman indicated that sticks, branches, stones, trash, garden debris and other items cannot be placed in the leaf pile. Piles containing debris will not be collected.
To make it more convenient for residents to determine when their street is scheduled for collection the city has put together a map showing the nine sections into which the city has been divided. That map and a copy of Brenemans letter can be found on the citys web site at www.woosteroh.com.
For the first time this information will also be available on the citys Facebook page and Twitter page.
By zooming in and out on the map, residents will be able to determine the particular section in which their home is located and consult the schedule for the pickup dates associated with their particular section number.
