SUMMARY: Alleged drunken driving reported by students on bus
The Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an alleged drunk driving incident that occurred Thursday Nov. 3 involving a school bus driver.
Wooster Post Sgt. Ty Richmond said that highway patrol troopers are investigating a drunk driving complaint involving a West Holmes School District substitute bus driver but further declined comment, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
The incident occurred on an afternoon West Holmes high school and middle school route with students on board the bus. According to West Holmes Superintendent Kris Perone, students used cell phones to report the drivers erratic driving. The bus was stopped and state patrol troopers took over the investigation, Perone said.
No students were injured.
Perone said the driver is not driving for the district since the incident and procedures are being reviewed. Perone said she has contacted the parents of the children on board by telephone.
Student safety is critical and we take it very seriously, Perone said. I hate it that our students were exposed to this and had to go through this. It is a very serious incident and we are taking steps to make sure it does not happen again.
Perone said the Holmes County Prosecuting Attorneys office has contacted her about the matter and the district is cooperating in the investigation.
