2014 Wayne County Fair Schedule: SATURDAY, 9/6

                        
Opening Day. Gates open at 8 a.m. for a day that is sure to please visitors of all ages with much to offer showcasing kings and queens, goats and cows, and Grandstand excitement. 9:00 a.m. Flag Raising, Pavilion 9:00 Open Flower Judging, Buss Hall Annuals, perennials, houseplants and artistic arrangements will be evaluated and include categories like “Jungle Fever”, “Home Sweet Home”, “Solar Power”, and “What Was I Thinking”. 9:00 Jr. Dairy Judging Contest, Coliseum The first animal judging of the day and of the fair will be with 4-H and FFA members competing as the judges and they write down placements of animals in the show ring. 9:00 Open Contest Horse Show, Riding Arena 9:00 Jr. Dairy/Meat Goat Show, Carter Building Members of 4-H and FFA will be showing their goats in both the meat and the dairy classes. Awards will be given for Champion Junior and Reserve Champion Junior among others. This is a good time to preview the market goats before they are auctioned. 10:00 Horse Pull, Grandstand Come watch these beautiful, majestic giants show their strength. The lightweight draft horse teams will be pulling sleds with up to 8,000 pounds and the heavyweight pull teams will pull up to 10,000 pounds! It is a great show to watch as the horses do all the work while the drivers lead from the side of the team. 11:00 Open Sheep Show, Show Arena 11:00 Jr. Steer Show, Coliseum 1:00 p.m. Jr. Market Goat Show, Carter Building (Or immediately following the Dairy Goat Show ) 1:00 Wine Judging, Rotunda An educational open-to-the-public judging with wines made from grapes, vegetables, or other suitable ingredients. 3:00 Jr. Horse Show – Versatility, Riding Arena (Or immediately following Opening Ceremony) 6:00 Jr. King & Queen Coronation, Pavilion Join the 2013 Junior Fair King and Queen in the crowning of the 2014 royalty. A prince and princess will also be announced during the coronation. This long tradition is well attended and is a crowd pleaser. The newly crowned King and Queen will serve as ambassadors for 4-H and agriculture as they travel to other county fairs and agricultural events around the state. 7:00 Shepherds Lead Class, Show Arena 7:00 Ayrshire & Jersey Shows, Coliseum Join this open judged show to see 22 classes of some of the best of the Ayrshire and Jersey breeds. Cash and other awards will be given to the best of the best. 7:00 State Sanctioned Modified Tractor Pull, Grandstand Known as the “heaviest motor sport on wheels”, this event always gets the crowd on their feet. It's one of the biggest nights of the fair and seats in the grandstand go quick. The tractors are big and expensive. The air is filled with black smoke and the roar of the tractor engines fill the night air. When the wheels start to spin, the crowd gets loud. Come early, get a good seat and leave fully entertained.
